A girl watches as ants invade her home and her favorite pair of pants.
Like other books in the "A Rookie Reader" series, this one uses rhyme very effectively to create an engaging story for kids learning to read. One night, while in bed, a little girl becomes aware of a parade of ants in her house, and finds that they are attracted to her favorite pantsor, rather, the bread crumbs in the pockets and the jelly stains on the knee. She waits until all the little bugs fall asleep on her pants, and then goes out to shake them off in the yard. While, basically, not an entomologically sound scenarioants would not fall asleep, en masse, for instancethe cartoony nature of the work may help mitigate this perceived lack of attention to detail. Bright, outlined drawings are well-done, and the choice of a casual font fits well with the style. It is categorized as "Level C: Fluent," and contains a word list with 79 entries. 2004, Children's Press/Scholastic, Ages 4 to 6.
