A Scientist at the Seashore Book

Did you know that every object has a gravitational pull on every other object? To me, the immediate thought after learning that is that we are literally connected to everything in the universe, and vice-versa; and that maybe there's a way to feel those pulls the way that we feel drawn in by the gravitational pull of our planet. Fascinating!

...not fascinating? Then maybe don't read this book, because it's two things: 1. full of information every science major and scientist already knows; and 2. NOT a reader-friendly description of a scientist's thoughts on the seashore.

The title really should be something like "Basic Physics of the Seashore." It's essentially a short, well-written textbook. It both explains plate tectonics as if we've never heard of it and includes formulae for calculating things like tidal range.

Even if you just like learning and are curious about science, this book is a little outdated (1984) and I'd suggest perusing Trefil's other books, like "Science Matters".
If you want an informative book about the seashore that more fits the category of nature writing, you might like "Seasons on the Pacific Coast" by Susan Tweit, or "Under the Sea-Wind" by Rachel Carson. (Or any other of the TONS of possibilities.)
