What People Wore: 1,800 Illustrations from Ancient Times to the Early Twentieth Century
This book is better than many others, although still deficit.
Unlike most books, Gorsline covers pre-Medieval clothing, including Egyptian and Greek/Roman fashion. He explains that fashion didn't vary greatly at that time, which was refreshing information. This book definitely has a Western hemisphere influence, with no illustrations of Eastern clothing, but he does discuss it briefly.
The illustrations are wonderful--I especially appreciated the many varied looks at hair styles and hats for the different eras. I just wish there was color!
The descriptions of fashion are given in several pages at the start of each era. The information is quite good, if brief. It's also hard to read without the visual images right there on the page--or to see the images and try to backtrack to see if there is information about it.
Better than others in this category!
