Covering the history of the USA since 1865, this is the second volume of a mainstream text featuring a strong social and thematic narrative. The authors weave the rich fabric of social history - the experience of ordinary men, women and children - into the political, diplomatic and economic history. Changes made for this fourth edition include expanded coverage of European cross-cultural encounters, and of military history; increased emphasis on the environment and technology; and reorganization of post-1945 chapters for a more chronological presentation. New chapters have been added on the Cold War, and on the Bush years and the Clinton administration.
