Geriatric Anesthesiology Book

Geriatric anesthesia is a rapidly growing and evolving field. The last few years have seen significant advancements in and important new modalities for addressing the needs of an aging population. The editors of Geriatric Anesthesiology's second edition are uniquely situated to put together a text highlighting both essential knowledge and recent breakthroughs of importance to any who work with the elderly. For the second edition, the editors have introduced a streamlined chapter format and have assembled a selection of chapters intended to deepen the understanding of anesthesic management of the geriatric patient.

This is a multiauthored textbook covering the area of anesthesia for geriatric patients undergoing surgery. This is the first textbook covering the subject. This book is designed to be a comprehensive text methodically addressing the aging process and its important impact on anesthesia consultants. In view of the increasing number of geriatric patients presently for surgery, this is a reasonable objective, which was by and large achieved. This book is written for the consultant anesthesiologist, CRNA, and resident anesthesiologist, and is appropriately targeted at this population. The editor is a recognized authority in this subject matter. The quality and quantity of illustrations are appropriate. References are reasonably current. I believe this book does offer some new and important information on anesthesia care of the elderly. On the other hand, there is a great deal of information contained in the volume that is already available in standard anesthesia textbooks. I believe this book should be purchased by medical and anesthesia departmental libraries.
