I really enjoyed this concise but thorough record of the War of 1812. When I'm doing history with the kids, my ideal is always to use the most advanced material and see what we can do with it, but in this case, caution was the better part of valor (or something) and I ended up using this book more than the "grown up" book I had hoped to read and then abridge in our lessons. The tone was intelligent, but very approachable. And I still have the more advanced War of 1812 in my "currently reading" list so that I will finish it at some point.
