A to Z Mysteries #17

Q is for Quicksand. . . .

Everyone in Green Lawn is quaking about the ducks that keep crossing River Road. But just when the town raises enough cash to build a special duck bridge, the money is stolen! Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose are on a quest to find the culprit. But to catch their quarry, the kids have to go wading . . . through quicksand!

Naomi Butler - Children's Literature

In this "A to Z Mysteries" book, the money the town has raised to build the ducks' crossing-bridge over the highway is stolen from the firehouse. Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose get involved when they are sleeping in the barn and see a car's headlight in the field. A fire brings out the fire department and it seems to be a way to get the fireman away so that the duck bank with the money collection can be stolen. The kids finally wind up in quicksand while trying to track the thief. The firemen are helpful in the identification of the thief and in the rescue of the children. The book is easy to read and has good related illustrations. It is a simple mystery series that can be understood by the age level intended. 2002, A Stepping Stone Book/Random House,
