Communism
Written during and after the wars and their horrors, this collection is a reminder of the evils wrought by unchecked nationalism. The authors deconstruct the myth of "ancient Balkan hatreds" as a fiction, created by the Western powers to absolve themselves of their own inaction in the genocide. The fate of Yugoslavia and its multicultural society is a sobering reminder that nationalist and racist propaganda must be checked before wars are instigated and millions die.
This collection concludes with a reminder that economic security and guaranteed human rights are the keys to a stable, functional, and peaceful multicultural society. I wish the US would pay attention.
