She Was A Complete Innocent...
The lonely, never-married Lady Elizabeth Harcourt desperately longs for a distraction. She finds one when a chance encounter leads her to the lush studios of artist Gabriel Cristofore. Gabriel insists upon painting Elizabeth's portrait, vowing to do justice to her ravishing figure. But Elizabeth soon realizes that Gabriel's plans for her have little to do with painting-for his true passion in life is the art of seduction. . .
Until He Showed Her The Most Irresistible Passion
The first moment Gabriel sets eyes on Elizabeth, he can see she's not his usual mark. Her lush auburn locks, luscious skin, and ruby lips offer just a hint of the pleasure they promise. Despite his desire, he is torn between seducing her instantly and taking his time so that he can explore every aspect of her. But Gabriel is about to discover that some affairs cannot be so easily abandoned-especially when the heart of a rogue has been captured. . .
"Cheryl Holt scores big with Total Surrender. Following in the erotic path set by Robin Schone, Lisa Kleypas, and Catherine Coulter, she taps into secret fantasies tied closely to a romantic love story."Romantic Times Book Club
"Carefully crafted characters, engaging dialogue, and sinfully erotic narrative."Romance Reviews Today on Total Surrender
Portrait artist Gabriel Cristofore, the hero of Holt's (Total Surrender, etc.) Regency-era erotic escapade, makes his living preying on rich, lonely women who pose for him, pleasure him and pay him in jewels. But when the half-Italian, half-English Lothario tries to lure Elizabeth Harcourt, the spinster daughter of a tyrannical earl, he's unable to keep his emotions from coming into play. Elizabeth has always been a dowdy, obedient daughter, but troubles at home with her 16-year-old stepmother propel her to throw caution (and her virginity) to the wind. Stunned by Elizabeth's attitude and his unexpected feelings for her, Gabriel tries to avoid taking advantage of her, but his resistance crumbles quickly. Their abundant sex scenes hold little appeal, however. Holt's flowery prose ("...the recent family upheaval, coupled with his elevated dolor, had him eager to wrongly purloin the remaining bits of her chastity") makes for rough reading, and the protagonists' affection feels superficial. A secondary romance between Elizabeth's housekeeper and Gabriel's father allows for some additional sex scenes, as does a subplot involving Elizabeth's father and stepmother, but readers should be warned: the sex is explicit and at times nonconsensual. Though labeled a historical romance, this melodrama truly belongs on the erotica shelf. (Feb.) Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
