The Alabama, British Neutrality, and the American Civil War Book

Nine adventurous American women who dared to go against the constraints of the times, climbed mountains, set records, endured inclement weather conditions, traveled the world and paved the way for other brave women. The book contains an interesting timeline that places the exploits of these women in context with significant events of their time. I was familiar with several of the women, especially Eleanor Pruitt Stewart, who unlike the others comes from a very modest background and homesteaded in the mountains. Most were wealthy or at least well positioned adventurers who could afford to hire guides or who kew how to raise money to do what they wished. All were willing to put their lives in peril for their adventures.
