Human rights and humanitarian norms as customary law Book

I find myself wishing I could give this book 3.5 stars. There were some sections that I found really useful, like Merry's earlier chapters on the CEDAW meetings and procedures. Some of her later chapters include case studies designed to investigate how human rights language becomes appropriated into a cause. In those cases, I liked the case studies themselves, but didn't feel like Merry's analysis of them was particularly on the nose. In several places, she comes across as overly optimistic in her theory, leaving gaping holes in her application of that theory to the cases themselves. It seemed to me that there was often a mismatch between what I perceived to be occurring (based on her case study) and what she claimed to perceive, which was frustrating and detracted from what was, overall, quite an interesting read.
