Recent trends in nutrition Book

This book contains the proceedings of the first International Symposium of Recent Trends in Nutrition held in New Delhi in November 1990. The various chapters discuss the latest research in the frontiers of nutrition science related to major problems of public health. The book addresses several important issue such as the significance of stunting seen widely among poor children, the adaptation to undernutrition, and the effects of undernutrition on work capacity and productivity, as well as on the body's resistance to infection. The book also discusses disease incidence related to undernutrition including diseases such as cirrhosis and fluorosis which correlate to toxins and contaminants in food, the possible carcinogenic components of traditional cereal-based diets, and cases of widespread hypothyroidsim of the newborn in goitre-endemic areas. The newest methods of computing energy expenditure, aspects of protein nutrition and protein metabolism, and the problem of diet and fat requirement are also covered.
