The Slave's Narrative
I had to read this book for my U.S. History class. I was excited to read it at first but the deeper I got into the book the more and more disappointed I felt. I looked forward to a history detailing the Thomas Jefferson-Sally Hemings affair only to find that there is no conclusive evidence to support that Jefferson fathered a mixed race baby. Not a big deal however, the majority of the book was a professor lecturing how it would be beneficial for everyone to accept the affair as the true founders and identity of America and white historians who look favorably upon Jefferson are racist. The book was well written and thoroughly researched however the author used far too many quotes from others and his only thoughts were to add slave babies are the true identity of America and if you admire Thomas Jefferson you are a racist.
