It just doesn't happen. Grandparents don't get divorced. Do they? Nora and Jo-Jo are stunned by their grandparents' decision. They try to think of ways to make Grandma and Grandpa stay together, but their efforts seem hopeless. As the days of summer pass, Nora is in despair. Change is hard, and she doesn't like it.
Then, during a special visit to her grandparents' house, Nora discovers that honesty and love can carry one through even the most difficult changes.

Parent Council Reviews

A young girl struggles to understand why her grandparents are getting a divorce. She tries everything she can think of to keep the divorce from happening. Over the course of the summer, however, she learns to accept difficult changes. I liked this book because the adults handle the divorce the way it should be handled. In real life, however, the characters wouldn't be so understanding, loving, and supportive while going through their own adjustments. I thought the story was unrealistic, but it would be useful for some situations. This is the first book I have seen that addresses children's feelings about a grandparent's divorce. The illustrations feature beautiful, warm textures and an interesting use of light and are appropriate to the mood of the story. 2001, Harcourt Brace & Company, $16.00. Ages 3 to 8. Reviewer: S. Latson SOURCE: Parent Council, September 2001 (Vol. 9, No. 1)
