Thompson/Strickland has always included the most recent research in strategy in a way that students can understand and apply it to business cases and problems. In addition, Thompson offers more coverage of strategy implementation than most other texts, which many instructors think is critical if students are to understand the how and not just the what and why. Thompson's coverage of Michael Porter's classic 5-forces model is clearer and more detailed than in other texts, according to reviewers. With this edition the market leader looks better than ever before, offering a new 4-color design, improved writing style, and two new chapters on global and e-commerce strategy.

к. Ñ€ÐµÐ°Ð»ÑŒÐ½Ð°Ñ Ñ†ÐµÐ½Ð½Ð¾ÑÑ‚ÑŒ книги еÑли и не нулеваÑ, то Ð±Ð»Ð¸Ð·ÐºÐ°Ñ Ðº 0.
It is one of the most complicated business books. Reading was incredibly slow. And, most importantly, there are no valuable thoughts at all. Everything that the book is packed, you can find in many other, more readable books. Plus, this book, so to speak, not the original, but a collection of different ideas. For example, the basis of the book - the works of Michael Porter. So, I would advise you to read Porter, not the complicated version of his work. It feels like the authors have deliberately given themselves the idea to make the material as difficult as possible. By taking simple and clear ideas, they have made them many times more complicated in order to give weight or value to their work. In fact, the reader will not get anything of value.
So, who buys such empty bricks? I think those who use them as references, diploma theses, etc., because the real worth of the book, if not zero, then close to 0. Yes, I can't argue with the ideas of the book, but the presentation. Presentation! What is the point of buying a repeatedly complicated book, if there is an exact copy, only a much simplified? And here we come to the answer again: to write an academic textbook, i.e., work for the sake of the work itself. Therefore, the book was not written to be read in purpose to obtain knowledge that can be used in practice, in real work in the marketing department, but only for the purpose that the teacher gave a "credit." And this is sad because the basis of any non-fiction literature is the transmission or dissemination of information that can then be used. After reading this book, you are unlikely to remember anything because the complexity of the text will not allow you to do it, and the process of reading will be more like torture. For example, I deliberately was reading in small pieces so as not to fall into a sleepy condition. Plus, I am interested in the subject of marketing as such, i.e., I read not for the essay or something like that, but to supplement my knowledge of both business in general and marketing in particular. I did not add anything to my knowledge. As I said, everything has already been saying many times in much better literature.
So, what we basically have. I'll say right away that the last chapters can be easily dismissed because they are about leadership, the creation and importance of a pleasant working environment (such as Google offices), workspace, recruitment, and personnel management issues, business ethics, and other common themes. Although those themes are important, those themes were worn out by various popular books so read them also in this book (a book that complicates everything) is not necessary (although yes, I read and yes, there is nothing new). So, we have about 350 pages of 580 of valuable material. Not very much.
So. The remaining part, as I said, is the topic of the company's strategic development. The core of it is Michael Porter's work "Competitive Strategy." In other words, this book deals with five competitive forces (in quite a detail) and what you need to know when creating a competitive strategy, which, as we know, is the foundation, the heart of any firm. Then there are the issues of diversification (vertical and horizontal), strategy in the international market (a topic that will only be needed by a narrow group of people), SWOT-analysis, PEST-analysis, and something else in detail. In general, everything that fits into one or two chapters of the standard textbook on marketing. And to be honest, I highly recommend you to read the bible of marketing called "Marketing Management" by Philip Kotler, where all this is described in a much simpler and much more comprehensive way. Plus, the books that the authors have taken as a basis for their own one, i.e., the books of Michael Porter, as well as the book "Blue Ocean Strategy" which is also mentioned by the authors. As for the book itself, let it stand on a shelf in the bookshop, where it belongs. If you still think of reading it, I would recommend reading it only after reading 50-100 books on marketing and management. And not popular books like "Purple Cow," but professional, i.e., Philip Kotler, Michael Porter, Al Ries, Jack Trout, David A. Aaker, etc.
