This was a rather confusing tale filled with intrigue, everlasting teasing, and lust. He was constantly tempted by a scandalous beauty he struggled to resist. You have to commend a man with a commendable sexual restraint, which is quite a rare quality. Is it not?

Let's not forget the nefarious criminal, whose villainous plans may destroy them both.

Judge Tabor: the ship she's sailing on is taken over by pirates and this sets up the story very nicely for the romantic relationship with Valerie and a pretend French priest, Father Etienne La Marque, who is actually Steven Ashford in disguise - a disguise he's used for several years in his efforts to halt human trafficking on the high seas.

This tale sweeps the reader into a spine-tingling and adrenaline-pumping voyage with a swoon-worthy hero.

I was disappointed that the cover does not match the clothing of the era.
