How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup: A Guy's Guide to the World of Infertility Book

I picked this book up from my Local Library primarily for my Partner. I had been perusing around online, sourcing out books I wanted to read and buy and I came across this one - "How to make Love to a Plastic Cup" by Greg Wolfe. One look at the premise and I was sold.

I wanted to start a dialogue between the two of us. I know at times while I am happy to fill my days with reading Mummy Blogs and Fertility resources those topics aren't high on my Partners agenda. He is a wise and supportive man and he is willing to listen and to learn, but I realized too that if I was getting overwhelmed with all the information I needed to take in, so was he, especially hearing it second hand from me. I handed it to him, and we discussed possibly reading a chapter or two and then discussing the contents…well that didn't happen and not because the dialogue between us had closed.

This is one of the most informative, and funny book I have ever read. It usually takes me a good week at most to get through a Non-Fiction book. I read this in less than a few hours [albeit across two days] Greg has a way of being warming, humorous and educational while really showcasing the struggles, and triumphs of going through Infertility. In his case, the Infertility was with him, and let me tell you the fresh perspective from a males point of view was much needed and welcomed.

Greg breaks things down in easy terms, sometimes step by step. From exploring the different kinds of Infertility to the reasons why they could be happening, he takes the reader through a journey in itself where we as the reader get a peak inside his own story, alongside educating and empowering ourselves [both as men and women] in the path to conception.

Primarily his focus is on IVF during the end of the book, a topic I had been avoiding researching due to fear. It eased my worry about the process, the way he broke it down, even the way to medicate and give your partner shots forearmed me to understand what the women in my TTC group and online forums were going through and while the target of this book is men, I found it helpful to know what I could expect in terms of my Partner also having Infertility issues as well, and what we could do together. It is also a fantastic resource for understanding the female side of Infertility, and what your partner will be going through. The combined outlook was one I was grateful for, and I hope that when my partner does read the book, he finds it as resourceful and enjoyable as I did.

I have read a fair few books on the subject of Infertility over the past few years and hands down if you are looking for a fantastic book to read between you two, to give to your husband to educate and make him part of the process, or to read for yourself for a new perspective that like Greg said, is rarely talked about in all out Female Fertility books then I highly suggest picking this up. Be prepared to laugh, cry, smile and feel comforted in knowing that you are not alone, and when you want something badly enough and are willing to go for it, you will succeed.
