Rename this book "On the Way to Too Much Internal Dialog"
Read this as part of a personal challenge to actually finish series this year rather than going from book to book and forgetting deets
Series: Yep and it' the last one! I did it. I feel a party coming on.
Sexy times: Barely. As in super barely. As in really super barely especially for a Julia Quinn. As in this is the least sexy times of the entire series, I believe.
Plan on reading more by the author: Oh sure.
Synopsis: Gregory sees the love of his life from across the room and is basically struck mute by Cupid's arrow. Of course, this love is not his true love. He's just a bit daft to see that his true love is standing right next to the love of his life. Eventually, the love of his life is caught in a compromising position with his true love's brother and the curtains come off, as it were. Eventually, he sees that indeed Lucy is his one true love and he better get moving.
Lucy, on the other hand, is promised by her evil uncle to another man and this other man's father is a right blustering bastard.
Cue the two domineering and evil men.
It takes awhile but eventually, the evil menfolk are done away with and the happy ending finally ends the book. Whew.
Heroine: Lucy. I like her. A lot. She's just so...just so...level headed. Even when she gets hit by Cupid, right in the head, she stays level. Good on ya, lady!
Hero: Him, I enjoyed more in the previous book. I mean he's still a good sort. But this was not his shining moment and for goodness sakes, shouldn't it have been?
Why it did or didn't work for me:
I think this suffers from wayyyyyy too much dithering and internal conversations, on both the H and h's parts. Yes, no, yes, no, yes, no...and everything just took too long and the payoff was not worth it. This felt not like a proper ending to a series, but a middling attempt at being done with something - the act of just getting it done with and put away. It saddens me greatly.
I will say that I loved the epilogue. Not the second one. I need to read those now. To really complete the series. That was a good ending to be had by all.
