Presidents' Day Book

This is a simple and interesting book that describes a little about President's Day and focuses on four of the more popular Presidents in our country's history, specifically the ones on Mount Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.

The story describes a class assembly program, where each child represents a President or discusses some of their accomplishments. The narrative is short and the illustrations are colorful and depict a diverse elementary school-age class, likely between third and fifth grade.

We read this book on President's Day in order to emphasize the importance of the holiday (and not just getting a day off from school.) We happened to be visiting my husband's sister and her family in Massachusetts and I insisted on reading this story to all the kids, even though the cousins are a bit older and have chosen not to participate in storytime with us anymore. Despite a few heavy sighs and rolling of the eyes from the tweener, I think we all enjoyed reading this short and entertaining story together, and I hope that we all got a little reminder about the importance of the day.
