Through the masterful use of metaphor, humor and intrigue, Kagen humanizes universal struggles with grief, loss, racial tensions and the difficulty of change. We get to experience the inner workings of a young woman who longs to be "quite right" and recognized for her unique talents by a world that can be cruel, judgmental and predatory toward those with developmental or cognitive impairments. Each of the characters is authentic and memorable. I highly recommend this excellent, fictional work of art.
