This book is based on the concept of neoteny, sometimes referred to as the science of growing younger. The author identifies ten traits we can develop to achieve a neotenous life: resilience, optimism, wonder, curiosity, joy, humor, music, work, play, and learning. The book is at places inspiring and insightful but sometimes cheesy and trite. That said, I learned or perhaps was reminded of ideas and practices I want to incorporate into my life to age more graciously. On the subject of plastic surgery, botox and the like, she asks the reader to consider the idea of running around with a spray can of green paint as the rich, golden colors of fall unfold. Hmmm... She reminds us that the most beautiful woman in a room is certainly not the youngest, best dressed or most perfect, but rather the most beautiful woman in a room is always the one with a smile and a kind word for everyone, who feels comfortable in her own skin and radiates joy. Amen. As a motivational speaker, the author includes lots of inspirational quotes and references research findings that are interesting. While there is very little new information here, it's always helpful to be reminded of what we already "know". One of my favorite quotes follows. "The tragedy of life is not in the fact of death. The tragedy of life is in what dies inside a man while he lives - the death of genuine feeling, the death of inspired response, the death of awareness that makes it possible to feel the pain or the glory of other men in oneself." Albert Schweitzer
