Review # 1 was written on 2007-08-30 00:00:00![]() Speaking of History of Luminous Motion, this book is by that author. But it's Margary Kempe meets The Handmaid's Tale meets Blood and Guts in High School meets...I dunno...bad porn? Something like that. Ohhhh, our heroine is troubled and in jail and maybe killed someone, and likes sex, but is so troubled, and has a bad history. Is it bad she likes sex? Is it hot that she likes sex? Is Camille Paglia right, and all sex is rape? Is Kathy Acker right and all women have sex, but also they're all messed up by their daddies, and thus they all hate sex because it's damaging and painful? Scott Bradfield got lost somewhere in the feminist apocalypse of the PoMo movement, and decided to try to write a female character modeled after what he tried to learn from all the PoMo women writers. And it has its moments... ..but few of them are actually good. Or even relevant for that matter. But History of Luminous Motion was fucking brilliant. Go read that instead. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-07-30 00:00:00![]() Delilah Riordan is a supposed good girl - who is slated for Death's Row with numerous counts of torture and murder. Chronicling her last few months, Lah's journal reveals a very self-deluded protagonist - one who is trying to convice both herself and her readers of her "innocence." |
