Review # 1 was written on 2011-04-13 00:00:00![]() Kelle Groom - Underwater City The University Press of Florida, 2004 In her collection of poetry, Underwater City, Kelle Groom reminds young poets why they write. Her descriptions are incredibly simple, but the arrangements cause each image to pop out of the page as if it were a picture book. In her poem "Pool," the strange man is very briefly described in an almost formulaic pattern, but we can feel his tears of her shoulder; we can feel the awkward tension as the laundry room hums and the grieving man sobs. Each line she writes presents familiar words, but remains packed full with emotions and snapshot moments. Kelle Groom is a true poet in every sense of the word. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-05-21 00:00:00![]() Some haunting imagery. Very personal revelations mixed with historical and natural fact. Some of my favorite moments: Does it bother you that so often I see my skin and think it's me? I learned how to hurt myself to keep another safe. |
