Buchanan does an incredible job contextualizing Wordsworth's gardens and their cultural importance. This book is a lot of fun and very informative.

Photographs by Richard Buchanan. "This is my master's library, where he keeps his books, but his study is out of doors." So said a servant to a visitor to Rydal Mount as she pointed to Wordsworth's bookcase. I heard a thousand blended notes, While in a grove I sate reclined, In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts Bring sad thoughts to the mind. I had planned to just look at the first few pages but I was caught up with the photography and garden maps and before I knew it I had read to the end. Superb. This treasure will probably be sought out every springtime. Highly recommended.
