Rustler, Suzanne Perry And The Future
Four issues ago, in RUSTLER Vol. 2, No. 2, we ran some bare-breasted shots of Suzanne Perry, former Trudeau press-aide and current newscaster. They were a sensation, to put it mildly. We've filled about half our Flashback section with Suzanne Perry letters. We could have filled the magazine.
Frankly, I was a little surprised. I knew there'd be some heat, but this went beyond my wildest dreams and it made me think that perhaps I should explain what I'm up to when I run sexy shots of Suzanne Perry, Margaret Trudeau (RUSTLER 6) and various other celebrities.
First of all, I don't agree with the general feeling that bodies are wicked and sinful. Don't tell me it isn't a general feeling—there are far more bluenoses than swingers out there in the Great Canadian Heartland.
Second, I don't agree with putting celebrities, whether political or entertainment-oriented, up on pedestals and expecting them to serve as shining examples for all—especially when being a shining example means being sexless in thought, word and deed. That's a terrible thing to do to anyone and you just know the rich and famous have the same happy urges the rest of us do.
So, celebrity nudes pull the celebrities off the pedestals. They serve to remind us that everybody is human and sexual and it's a ... good thing!
Another reason for doing celebrity nudes is that I firmly believe that the future will see a break-down of the old distinction between 'sexy' and 'straight' entertainment. It used to be that porno stars were unknown outside the porno world now legit actors like Phil Silvers and John Ireland are appearing in porn epics and hot broads like Serena and Marilyn Chambers are showing up in regular Hollywood epics.
We're all curious about the bodies and sexual performances of our favourite stars and the celebs themselves seem to be encouraging that taste with all the 'accidental' flashing they do at discos and parties and their increasing willingness to work nude in films.
So, I look forward to the day when we can watch Diane Keaton do it all with Woody Allen and 1 think by running celebrity nudes I'm bringing that day a little closer.
Finally, I have to admit to the gleeful chuckles I get from shocking the bluenoses. I love it when they write in howling, "You can't do that. It's sacreligious." Makes my day!
