Zen Brushwork: Focusing the Mind with Calligraphy and Painting Book

I picked up this book on a whim and was hooked after reading a single random sentence. Hitsuzendo is more than pleasing to look at calligraphy. Hitsuzendo breathes with vitality and energy that is a product of mushin; no-mind. Hitsuzendo is an art in which the self is forgotten and the product of single minded concentration that unites the practitioner with the highest reality. The word 'sammai' means the highest state of mental concentration free from emotional disturbances. The term 'shonen sozoku' is true-thought or right-mindedness; undistracted concentration. 'Sozoku' is continuation. So 'shonen sozoku' is considered a state of continuous true thought. Through Hitsuzendo one may uncover one's original self. Another insight I had while reading this book is that the preparatory exercises resemble karate kata! The exercises and examples of Zen calligraphy are excellent. I am sold on this art and wish to dive in feet first.
