It's an excellent book for beginners and people who haven't learnt it right the first time around. As a kid, I could draw reasonably well (for my age). But I realised soon that I wasn't getting better and gave it up.
Now I realised that I'd hit a wall and there's not much I could have done to improve given the techniques that I had been adopting. I had become an expert beginner.
I'm happy to have read this book. It covers some very important subjects:
[1] How to sketch portraits
[2] The use of guidelines
[3] The importance of drawing and painting in layers (Each layer adding more depth and detail to the artwork)
[4] How to remove unimportant details from pictures
[5] How to draw what's actually and not what we think we see
[6] How to highlight (give the spotlight to) the most important aspects of the painting
Also some excellent artwork throughout to keep you motivated. I highly recommend this book for beginners.
