Ultimate Fantastic Four, Volume 6: Frightful Book

Great book. Millar weaves several story lines together from the zombified FF to Doom's return to a time travel adventure. Yes, the plots are resolved fairly quickly, but they are still fun escapades that fully entertain. Land's art is rather hit or miss with me, guess too many look alike beautiful women begins to get stale after a while. Overall, though, I'm enjoying the series again after the first two volumes were fairly meh for me.

I've already said my piece about Greg Land's lightbox traced artwork a few times so I'll not go into it again here. Suffice it to say: artwork - 2 stars.

As for the story, well, this volume collects two of them. The first is a time travel caper involving the Skrulls and it was... fine, I suppose. It didn't exactly set my world afire but it had some nice moments and we get to meet Ultimate Alicia Masters for the first time, which was nice. Story one - 3 stars

The second story ties up some loose ends from previous arcs featuring the N-Zone, the Marvel Zombies crossover and Dr. Doom. It was also... OK. Nothing special, but fine. Story 2 - also 3 stars.

Speaking of Dr. Doom, when he appears here, he looks exactly like the regular 616 Dr. Doom. The stupid goat legs are gone and he appears to be wearing armour almost exactly like his 616 counterpart. There is absolutely no explanation for this; it would appear somebody realised the goat legs were stupid and decided to do away with them quietly and hope nobody noticed. For this shamefaced piece of retconning I'm rounding down from 2.5 stars to 2 stars for the overall mark for this book.
