A young woman becomes a professional dominatrix, and the terrible alchemy of the job and a miscarriage unleash the demons within her. Cassie is pretty much a typical punk-rock lover let loose in Manhattan in the early '90s. She lives to club-hop with her sexy boyfriend, hit the hippest bars with her friends and shop for slinky clothes in the East Village. She has a tight circle of friends who, despite their hard-partying ways, take care of each other. However, Cassie has a dark secret: She fantasizes about maiming men during sex. These disturbing thoughts start to carry over into her daydreams when she takes a job as a dominatrix. The more she beats her clients into submission for money, the angrier she becomes with men-even her sweet beau. She flashes back to the sexual abuse she suffered as a child in daycare, to her uncaring parents and to her abysmal experiences with past boyfriends. She dwells on her sad and emotionally chaotic history and turns to work to blow off steam. But when a patron attacks Cassie, causing her to miscarry her child, she slips into horrible depths of rage. She methodically plans to get rid of her boyfriend and to work alone, in an arena where no one will stop her from turning fiendish dreams into reality. This fast-paced erotic thriller rings silly at times, but overall it's a page-turner.
