Nairobi To Shenzhen Book

A good read. I found this book hard to put down. From a haphazard collection of thoughts and impressions of southern China, the story begins to hone in on people, observing their behavior and relationships, across vastly different cultures. The book eventually coalesces into a love story that requires, and gives in satisfying detail, a deeper understanding of Kenyan, American and Chinese cultures. In the end, we can see clearly the profound difficulties and enormous pleasures that result in their interaction. The author is a natural writer and, though the pictures he paints and the letters he presents are brutally honest, we are left with the image of a character striving to improve himself and the world through better self-awareness.
