It is Switzerland, in 1816. Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Shelley's wife Mary and Byron's physician Dr Polidori are ensconced in the Villa Diodati beside Lake Geneva. But, in exchange, what can the effete Polidori offer this ghostly female predator, and what is her secret? How real is the insatiable thirst of the sisters for human male fluids? Merciful Women
Was geschah 1816 wirklich in der Villa Diodati, als Mary Shelley Frankenstein schrieb und Polidori The Vampyre; A Tale? Zusammen mit Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley und Marys Halbschwester Claire verbrachten sie einige Zeit in der Villa am Genfer See und vertrieben sich die Zeit mit dem Erfinden von Geschichten über übernatürliche Ereignisse.
Hier wir die Geschichte aus der Sicht Polidoris erzählt. Aber es erwarte bitte niemand historische oder biografische Fakten. Der Roman ist selbst eine Schauergeschichte. Es geht um den Pakt mit dem Teufel, den hier zumindest einer schließt. Darüber hinaus aber auch um eine monströse Kreatur, die einen besonderen Lebenssaft benötigt, um zu überleben (nein, kein Blut). Und es geht um Literatur, die man sich einverleibt.
Spannend, originell und witzig. Und jetzt muss ich Polidoris Vampir lesen.
