Kingdom's Quest Book

This book was good. I really like Gavinaugh's character, and I feel as though Black portrayed Paul well. However...Paul makes it pretty clear in the Bible that he's single. And wants to be, since he is all too dedicated to his cause - the Gospel. Which made the romance in this with Gavinaugh (who is supposed to be Paul) kind of bothersome for me. It really took away from the story, which was sad for me.

Other than that, the book was great! Dragons, creepy islands, dark knights, brave knights, pirates (even with boat chases!) and great sword-fighting. I loved it. Looking forward to the next one.
The whole romance thing threw me off because, up until this point, the author had stuck closely to the scriptures. Of course he took some creative liberties (it is an allegory, set in medieval times with sword-fighting instead of preaching, after all) but normally they have just been add-ons or taking a concept and portraying it with the same heart/meaning/message just with a medieval flair or the like. But this... I guess it was just a bit too far for me?

I guess my issue is in a culture that pushes romantic relationships to an extreme where you feel like something is broken or wrong with you if you aren't in a relationship, I was kind of hoping that a Christian portrayal of the Apostle that promoted singleness would go against that which our culture promotes. So in that sense, I'm a bit disappointed. I can see why he did it, for the little girls reading it...But he totally could have made Keanna a strong knight herself without the romance...just a thought.

But like I said, well-written. I liked all the characters. I liked the plot. I liked all of the aspects, minus that one. Still looking forward to reading the next book!
