I am trying short stories that can be found free of cost on internet. On a computer one can easily enlarge the text. Stories are convenient to stick in between longer books. In this GR group several of us discuss chosen stories here: It is fun to discuss one's own thoughts with others.
A Jury of Her Peers by Susan Glaspell captured my attention and I did enjoy it. It is sort of a mystery and that is not usually my cup of tea. A mystery in a psychological sense. A husband is dead in his bed with a rope knotted around his neck. The wife is suspected. Men are brought in to find evidence. The sheriff's wife and the wife of the man who discovered the misdeed come too. The question is less who committed the murder than why it was committed; this is how the two women see it. It is interesting to observe what they discover and what they do with what they have discovered. The story leaves a subtle feminist message. The subtlety of the message is what makes it so good.

Susan Glaspell (1876-1948) was an American playwright, journalist, novelist and actress. The story is based on a murder she covered as a journalist.
