The Hothouse
I have not read this, but just watched an excellent performance.
The Spanish version was by the writer Eduardo Mendoza.
Nightmarish at its best… Reverberating echoes of the The Magic Mountain and of Kafka.
Power as exercised through bureaucracy; the individual versus a structured society; relationships, manipulation and sex; betrayal; authority and subservience; sanity bordering with madness.
Life and death.
Written in the 1950's but not performed until about thirty years later.
Stark, bleak and recommended.
