The Days of Jubilee: The End of Slavery in the United Statesby Patricia McKissack, Fredrick McKissack and illustrated by Leo Dillon and Dianne Dillon is a book from the perspective of an African American living before, during, and after the end of slavery in the United States. The book uses letters and diaries from slaves to tell the story. There are beautiful black and white photographs scattered throughout the book. Because there wasn't one official day that slavery ended, but instead over a period of time, the reader learns that the African American community refers to these days as Days of Jubilee because it was days of much rejoicing. While a nice read, this book seems to be better fit for the younger side of young adult. If you were a young adult in high school, you might want to find a book that is a little more advanced.
