1930. Wau Bun is considered a classic of Wisconsin history. It is in part an autobiography, the account of the years 1830 to 1833 spent at Fort Winnebago and the journeys thither and thence. It was not written at the time the events occurred; it is founded on memories, the memories of an unusually intelligent actor and observer.
