Paresh offers a fantastic analysis of the Soviet Union. While the book is not perfect (it's info on Soviet repression is very overstated - possibly because it was written prior to the wave of new scholarship on the SU from Getty, etc and possibly because of Paresh's "libertarian" bias) Paresh offers both rigorous Marx scholarship and empirical analysis of Soviet production to provide the most coherent State Capitalist thesis in Marxian theory. A must read for those interested in understanding the debate on the Soviet Union's mode of production.
