This exquisite contemporary photographic documentary of the descendants of Wounded Knee and the great Sioux leaders is the result of a three-year project by prize-winning photographer Don Doll. It is the story of today's Lakotas, Dakotas, and Nakotas who have survived the broken treaties and broken promises of the past and have chosen to make a difference by continuing to carry the traditions and culture of their people to future generations. Vision Quest reveals the breadth of contemporary Native American life. Don Doll, who first lived and taught among the Sioux thirty years ago, interviewed and photographed sixty tribal members whose lives speak of the future - men and women who have chosen freely to pursue the continuation of their heritage through arts and letters, leadership, service, and education.
