The Question of Providence
Charles Wood gives a thorough exposition of the classic doctrine of providence. He does this first by expositing William Sherlock, who wrote on of the most comprehensive classic texts on the subject. He then moves on to offer a Trinitarian grammar of providence: from the Father, through the Son, and in the Holy Spirit. All the while, he insists that God cannot be the cause of evil.
In that regard, I think he does a great job. However, the book does not interact with any of the alternative to the classic doctrine, whether open theism, process theology, or even the mystical theology of Simone Weil. In that regard, I think the book failed to be convincing. Notably when it comes to the doctrine of "concourse" where our actions are enabled by God such that God is acting with us in our actions. This seem to me to lend itself too easily to the notion that God does cause evil.
So, for a slime volume, good stuff, but there is alot of other perspectives out there, which may offer better alternatives.
