The Playboy Interviews: The Comedians
I really liked this book. It took a gendered view of the history of vaudeville (I won't say "herstory") and talked about how different performers broke the mold about what was expected of female vaudeville performers. I would have loved some detail connecting this to how burlesque evolved (as that is my primary interest), but overall a smart, good read.
