The book follows fairly closely, as far as I can see, the facts of Kent's stay on Newfoundland. Mr. Winter's fresh language and his spare, crisp descriptions (including those of sexual encounters) make it very readable. He's actually a more disciplined writer than Kent, who comes off here as a believable, if not very likable, human being.
