A lavishly illustrated, and well written history of "La serenissima" by Franceso da Mosto, himself a native of the city and descendent of a long line of Venetians. His affection for the city comes across in the affection with which he writes of this anomalous urbanity.
My only complaint is about the frequent side panels that interrupt the flow of the text with digressions, it would have been preferable had they be added as appendices.
