Let's get one thing straight. Any self-respecting cat ought to know who her real friends are. Teebo's mine. He's the only cat who can call me "Stubby." That's because he saved me frm Max, the mad dog who bit off my tail! Everyone else calls me Kikki. Teebo and I love to play tag. So imagine how I felt when Teebo and his people moved, just drove away in a big red car. Suddenly I lost my best friend and gained new neighbors, a pack of dogs called Morris, Doris, and Boris. As if Max wasn't bad enough!

I was so lonely. And scared. Nobody wanted to play with me—until Morris, Doris, and Boris tried to coax me down from the tree. They said they wanted to be friends. Friends?! With a history like mine, whom do you trust? That's where the real tale began...

School Library Journal

Gr 2-4-In this sequel to Stubby and the Puppy Pack (Minstrel, 1999), Wallace continues the adventures of Kikki and her dog friends Boris, Doris, and Morris. The cat and her pals explore their neighborhood, and meet some new, not always nice, people. A little girl who lives nearby likes to play dress up with poor unsuspecting animals, and her mother calls the pound on any creature that gets within close range. Readers will find Kikki's narration to be quite descriptive, and the plot is enjoyable. However, her nickname, Stubby, is alluded to briefly in the first chapter, but is not used again, and children may be confused as to why it's in the book's title. While the ending is rather abrupt, this is an enjoyable, easy-to-follow story that animal/pet fans are sure to enjoy.-Julie E.
