Sisters on a Journey: Portraits of American Midwives
This book is a collection of biographies/interview findings with American midwives with varying backgrounds and training. They range from lay or direct-entry midwives who have learned primarily by DOING and by apprenticeship, to Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) and many in between.
I love hearing about what brought these women to the career of aiding and supporting women in their birth experiences. To hear their take on childbirth and on women's health is profound and often poetic. But then again, midwifery is a strong passion of mine and it's what I want to be when I grow up. :)
