I received this book as a gift at a women's conference where Jennifer Rothschild was a keynote speaker years ago. I finally read it as a daily devotional supplement. It was fantastic!
Jennifer's writing style is very conversational. It's like she's sitting down with you at her kitchen table or in her living room, sharing what she has learned from personal experience, the Bible and others about how to talk in an honest, encouraging way to yourself. Her illustration of our minds as "thought closets" is simply inspired! All of her topics are very practical and helpful. I actually quoted quite a bit of her advice on my Facebook page to encourage others.
The author includes questions at the end of each chapter for group discussion or private self-evaluation. There are recommended Bible verses, as well. At the back, she even has a brief gospel presentation. With these features, I think it would make a great book for women's Bible studies or as gifts to the gals at your church.
So many of us gals (and guys, too) "shoot ourselves in the foot," as Paul Harvey used to say, with all of our negative self-talk. If you read Jennifer's book (preferably a chapter per day, so you can digest it), and apply it, you'll soon find your outlook, speech and conduct is a lot more positive and uplifting--for you and those around you.
