This book is a collection of four separate volumes of poetry written by Pulitzer Prize- nominee, Eugene Ruggles. A California "deep image" poet born in Michigan, he is widely admired. Sonoma County Poet Laureate, Mike Tuggle describes him as a poet "gifted with language and a vision," who believed in poetry as a "testament and a witness to truth, love and justice;" Muriel Ruckeyser, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Sharon Dubiago are quoted on the cover. Only one of these volumes (The Lifeguard in the Snow, University of Pittsburgh Press, 1977) was previously published; the rest were discovered at his death.
