Chinas now twenty year history of capitalism has brought radical changes to the nation. Some are now very wealthy, others are stuck in poverty. The book aims to show that although China may appear to be a mass market of 1.3 billion consumers, in reality 900 million are poor farmers. The economy grows at more than ten per cent a year but is this market really open to the western supplier?

The point throughout the book is that the Chinese have a different set of values to us and unless the reader understands this then he or she is set-up to waste much time and lose much money.

Chapter 6 shocks with details of crimes and their punishment. Chapter 7 describes how the country is essentially corrupt. Chapter 8 looks at shopping in China, the worlds fake manufacturing centre. Chapter 9 describes the language. Chapter 10 covers a brief history of the nation. Chapter 11 is a guide to those who want to live and work in China. Chapter 12 shows how easy it is to travel around in such a large country. Chapter 13 describes the key geographical locations and cities and how they differ and finally the conclusion Chapter 12 predicts where it might all go wrong.
