Priest, Volume 6 Book

Lucifer's Mike Carey gives an introduction to this volume claiming Priest "is currently evolving into one of the most enthrallingly unpredictable stories in the entire [manga] medium" Its an introduction this series so richly deserves! It really has moved far beyond the gothic spaghetti western hellsing rip off it seemed at first.

We have a multi-layered and multi-time period narrative ultimately about testing of faith. The artwork is stunning, the story complex and the pain of the characters, as they are sent over the edge moving.

This volume finishes off the history of how Beheal becomes possessed by Belial and traps himself in the Domas Porada with Temozarela. It them moves forward into Issac's flashback story - how he's manipulated by heretical priests into opening the Domas Porada by the sacrifice of his beloved adopted sister. The ending is something straight out of Clive Barker's hellraiser, chains and all.

Fast becoming one of my favourite manga series.
