Reviewer:Leigh G Webber, BS Pharmacy(Temple University School of Pharmacy)
Description:This concise drug guide is an excellent compact resource that easily fits into a lab coat pocket. I especially like the comparative charts in the back of the book and the Visual Identification Guide.
Purpose:This meets the demand for a readable and easy to use printed drug reference guide.
Audience:This is intended for pharmacists in retail and ambulatory settings, as well as those in institutional/hospital, clinical and consultant positions. It is also targeted at students of pharmacy. I find the Guide to be a consistently credible, useful reference.
Features:This is an easy to follow resource which quickly identifies key points of a given medication. I love the convenience of the medication comparison charts in the back of the book, especially those that detail OTC combination products. These charts would be very helpful to pharmacy students, particularly the abbreviation, acronym, and symbol charts, as well as the H2 antagonist PPI comparison chart. The visual identification guide is a useful resource. The only shortcoming is the lack of detailed information regarding the reduction of medications that require renal dosing.
Assessment:This drug guide packs a lot of information into a convenient pocket-sized reference. It would also be a wonderful desktop reference to have on hand at any nursing station, particularly a nursing station in a long term care facility.
