New Soundings: An Anthology of New Writing from the North of Ireland written by Daragh Carville

New Soundings: An Anthology of New Writing from the North of Ireland written by Daragh Carville

Overview:

The original Soundings, edited by Seamus Heaney, was published by Blackstaff Press in 1972. Optimistically subtitled 'An Annual Anthology of New Irish Writing', it was a collection of the very best of new poetry then being produced on either side of the border, and included an array of writers, such as Eavan Boland, Ciaran Carson and Paul Muldoon, who have since received wide critical acclaim. Now, more than thirty years on, Blackstaff Press is delighted to launch New Soundings, a showcase for a new generation of writers -- including poets, prose writers and dramatists -- from the North of Ireland, edited by award-winning Irish writer Daragh Carville. Whether they are born and bred in Northern Ireland or whether they are 'offcomers' (people who come from one place to settle in another), these writers re-imagine and re-shape the 'disputed territory' of the North. Their voices -- funny, moving and querulous -- offer us fresh perspectives, new ways of seeing and speaking. This rich and provocative anthology is essential reading for anyone with an interest in Irish writing.
